A. The first step in the AAC Centre is always to perform a multifaceted, professional assessment with each new client to identify the skills, capabilities of and barriers for the client in their social networks and specific environments. Based on this information, the AAC Centre can then make recommendations regarding which assistive technology would be most appropriate and helpful.

 

Q. How do you obtain the recommended assistive technology?

A. Depending on the type of system, the AAC Centre can either manufacture the assistive technology or obtain the technology through various funding sources.

 

Q. How do you ensure the success of an assistive technology?

A. The AAC Centre provides comprehensive strategies for each suggested assistive technology, and ensures the necessary training for, and follow up with the client and their support network.
