PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

DDRC, as part of its Renewal process has created a new structure for the role of Public Relations and Communication Manager. This role will be responsible for co co-ordinating information and findings innovative ways to handle problems by taking a methodical approach to gathering, researching and editing information, and persuading people.
Additionally this role will manage everyone belongs™, and Community Development initiatives. They will lead the agency in playing a lead role in building partnerships with stakeholders across a broad spectrum of not for profits, business and government to collectively increase the capacity of the community for inclusion, while providing leadership in building DDRC’s capacity to effect social change .
Duties
- create and maintain public awareness of their organizations' policies and actions
- foster good community relations
- facilitate communications within the organization between employees and management
- develop, implement and evaluate strategic communications programs
- act as media and stakeholder contacts for their organizations
- conduct research (for example, public opinion and attitude surveys) and communicate results
- prepare speeches, news/media releases, brochures, audio-visuals, advertisements, reports, articles, newsletters and websites for defined audiences
- identify the interests and concerns of key groups their organizations serve
- co-ordinate special events and promotions for internal and external audiences
- manage issues that relate to their organization
- provide consultative services to management to facilitate communications with target groups.
- responding to requests for information from the public
- researching and writing copy for specific projects
- conducting tours of organizational facilities
- writing news releases and pitching story ideas to the media
- media tracking and issue tracking
- assisting senior practitioners with projects or programs
- planning events
- maintaining current distribution lists
- working with web designers.

Educational Requirements
- Post-secondary education in communications and media studies.
- Minimum 3 years experience in related area. Member or eligible for membership in the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) or International Association of Business Communications ( IABC) considered an asset.

This role is to develop, implement, manage, and administrate all human resources-focused activities and technical areas of health & wellness, compensation, benefits and leave administration, pension, disability claims management, recruitment & selection, employment equity and human resources policies.
Key Leadership Responsibilities:
- To role model seasoned HR leadership and be recognized as a skilled and capable professional
- Strong coaching, mentoring skills; ability to teach others
- Demonstrate strength, maturity and wisdom in the management of interpersonal and organizational challengesEvaluate current practices to determine their consistency with policy and procedures as well as federal and provincial labour laws and standard employment practice
- Provide advice and direction to DDRC staff in areas of performance management, discipline and dismissals
- Ensure legislative requirements are met under the OHS Code, Act and Regulations; Public Health Act; Human Rights, FOIP, PIPA and Employment Standards
- Participate in the strategic development of business and operational plans; visioning, influencing and promotion of systemic operation
- Provide leadership and support in leading and maintaining the occupational health and safety program to ensure practices and procedures align with provincial OH&S legislation and regulations as they pertain to the company.
Education/Professional Experience:
- 10 years seasoned generalist experience and post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences and/or Human Resources Certificate; or equivalent
- CHRP designation preferred
- Superior interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Proficient in computer systems and programs

Position: Community Resource Worker – Participation in Academics and Career Exploration (PACE)
Status: 37.5 hours per week(1-year contract)

The Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary is committed to facilitating the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities into the community in real and meaningful ways and increasing the community’s capacity to include all Calgarians so that everyone belongs TM.
The PACE Community Resource Worker provides support for young adults with developmental disabilities according to their expressed interests within academic and career.
Requirements:
Providing side-by side support to clients in a variety of community settings
- Assisting clients with academic and career pursuits
- Assisting with job maintenance and academic supports
- Must be available to provide evening and/or weekend support when required
- Ability to build strong working relationships with clients, families and networks
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clients with non-traditional communication systems
- Maintenance of relevant documentation
- Ability to encourage best practices in a team support model
Qualifications:
- Post secondary education in Rehabilitation / Social Sciences and/or related education and experience
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly in community-based settings
- Committed to building community connections
- First Aid / CPR (Must have completed before commencement of employment if successful)
