Disability Awareness Information Sessions provide
a forum for exploring deeply held stereotypes and historical stigma
experienced by people with developmental disabilities. Disability
Awareness Information Sessions provide
a safe learning environment where participants can ask questions
and discover their own ability to find the answers to common questions
and concerns about interacting and communicating with people with
developmental disabilities. Information sessions are designed to
be collaborative, open, and to encourage an exchange of ideas and
strategies on how to be more aware, comfortable, and sensitive when
interacting and communicating with people with developmental disabilities.
Disability Awareness Information Sessions are provided
by the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary (DDRC).
Session facilitators include qualified trainers from DDRC. Information
sessions are provided on-site at your organization and can be general
in nature and/or tailored according to your organization's specific
requirements. The length of information sessions depend on each organization's
requirements. Typically, Disability
Awareness Information Sessions are provided as a half-day or
full-day session, or as one to two hour sessions and can accommodate
up to 20 people per session.
